Annfield Plain Cricket Club - Joker rules

How 'Find the Joker' works

In the first week, the Jackpot will be set at £200.00 and there will be a board with 53 numbered envelopes on it. Each envelope will contain a playing card. These will be the full pack of 52 cards in addition to a Joker.

To play, you buy a ticket each week for £1.00. This has a unique number and also has a space for you to write an envelope number on it. The ticket has a counterfoil, which you retain. Each week, a draw will be made from the ticket numbers sold. The member holding the winning ticket will receive £20.00 and the envelope with the same number that is written on the ticket will be opened. If it contains the Joker card, the member will also win the Jackpot. If not, that card and envelope are discarded and the game continues the following week, but with one less envelope.

Each week, a proportion of the ticket sales is added to the Jackpot, which thus increases on a weekly basis until it is won. A similar proportion is accumulated to build up a new Jackpot of £200 and a proportion is retained by the club for clubhouse maintenance and redecoration.

As the number of envelopes/cards on the board reduces, the chance of the weekly winner selecting the Joker increases. If the game runs for a number of weeks, there is the possibility that the Jackpot could accumulate to several hundred pounds or more. When the Jackpot is eventually won it will revert to £200 with all 53 envelopes back on the board. The Management Committee may, at its discretion, start the Jackpot at a higher amount.

Each week when the draw is made, the result will be published here. The winning number and chosen envelope will be displayed, along with the winner's name and the result of opening the selected envelope. The tables below are an example to show how the draw will work. In the second week, all of the envelopes except 23 will be available and the Jackpot will stand at £239. As envelope 48 does not contain the Joker, the following week the Jackpot will be £285.50 and envelope 48 will be removed.
